My locost is running twin 40's and has 2 sponge ITG filters poking out of the side of the bonnet. I am going to do a few long trips this year, what sort of trouble am I in if it rains? I obv will abandon driving in any sort of torrential rain but is it ok to run these in normal showers?

sure you would be fine for a shower as the filters are oiled but anymore than that then its a lottery

mine arent sticking out, but theyre in line with the scoop, so must get a pretty big face of water. Ive driven in very hard rain and never had any troubles.

won't be a problem unless you drive in to water which is deep enough to come up to the level of the carbs.

Mind you if you do that you're in real trouble anyway!

I had a cone air filter sticking out the top of the engine on my hovercraft..... the spray from the skirt trying to lift out of water was enough to drown the filter and kill the engine.... not amusing lol!

I would imagine driing rain and spray would clog them up...

I find in heavy rain that mine runs better, or at least seems to. Never had any problem with it anyway. Cheers Ray

MIne sticks out quite a way. Got caught in a couple of good don pours. Not had a problem. Seemed to go a little better. Well from what i could tell. Never give them a biggun in the rain. The back snakes like a git.



Description

A bit of rain will cool the charge and prevent detonation, to much could kill the spark but it would have to be a bucket load.
Keep the filter clean and oiled you should be OK.

In 7000-8000 miles i've had no problems with mine, it's just starting to show a little wear at the leading edge.
