Does anyone know if a 1.4 single point head can be fitted with the later four point manifold.Got to change an engine in a rover 214 which is four point and have been offered a single point engine. Was hoping to just change manifolds over and job done.
Providing the SPI engine is a 16v one (the 1.4 8v is also SPI) then the manifold will swap over.
Yes -- but if the engine you are replacing has coil packs you may run into issues with the cam sensor awhich early engines didn't have.
Very early 16 valve K engines had smaller inlet ports but this isn't generally a problem.
Remember and use a new inlet manifold gasket --- must be the green rubber/plastic type.
Also the toothed reluctor ring for ignition has to swapped to match the engine and security ECU --- even then you may need to get the ecu
re-coded.

green neoprene inlet gasket not rubber that was the early black one
I did this last year, swapped the flywheels and pick ups over and worked fine. I have a single point manifold and bits if you get desparate! I also had to swap the coolant outlet housing over as the mpi had an extra sensor in it if I remember correctly.
as always thanks, thats what i needed to
make the decision. Thanks to dingz for the offer,I will let you know.
