getting my gearbox mount made again (i keep messing it up )

silly question that just came to mind, when the rubber mount, this type:

is bolted to the gearbox, the whole mounting can sit down flat on a steel plate can't it? the head of the bolt doesn't stick down futher?

Yes it can sit on a flat plate if you want to do it that way

(its a big photo sorry)
but just thought i don't really need the 122m hole in the middle, just the 2 8mm holes.wasn't sure if i was about to get it wrong for a 3rd time

The middle hole is handy so you can screw the mount to the member then fit the centre bolt up to the gearbox etc.

Also as the mount sags the centre bold head can rattle on the crossmember, or so it looked when I put mine together.

I made up a little frame to get the height correct Rescued attachment GearboxMount3.jpg

awesomeness thanks guys
think i'll do away with the middle hole then. i'm sure i could pack it out if i do find the bolt hitting the cross member

also i tried the think of fititng the mount to the member and them bolting up through the gearbox, but i've not had any success in that yet lol. bad sign all round, but i think it would be the same if i but the mount to the gearbox and then on the member

its got about 11mm in the indent in the mount (if that makes sence)

blakep82 - 30/3/10 at 07:15 PM

ah yeah i get you
so as long as the head of the bolt isn't more than 10mm it'll be fine?

since its not got a nut on it at the other end (like a nyloc or something) its probably better if the head of the bolt hits the member if it tried rattling itself loose anyway
