What have you been using in the engine up to now? Why do you want to change, or are you just confirming what you are doing?

I'd plump for a fully synthetic, the best I can afford, if I were you!

Fully synthetic (Castrol Edge is best IMO) 5w40 or 10w60 for racing.

Halfrauds do a well priced 5W50 trackday oil which I use in both of my cars. It gives good oil pressure hot or cold.

Take great care tappet jacking problems have beeen encountered even when using 0w/40 in Silver tops although this only occured in very cold weather. I am pretty sure 5w/50 or 5w/60 would not be a good idea.

Personally I would not using anything other than 5w/30, but a 0w/40 or 5w/40 should be OK for summer use.

Presumably oil choice will need to take into account how hot the oil is going to get and what kinds of life the engine has had / how carefully it has been looked after so far / what oils have been used this far. I'd be worried if you go super thin that the engine will get toasty warm on the track and increased tolerances due to past (ab)use will see it providing little lubrication.

I'd also go for a good synthetic stock oil IE stick with OEM oil and just change it regularly to take into account the harder work it's having to do.

Speak to Opie Oils, who give good advice (and discounts). They suggested to me Motul 300v 5w30 or similar, which I use with no probs.
Their advice was essentially never ever to use anything other than 5w30 in silvertop Zetec IIRC.

The zetec runs hot any way so I would stick with 5w30
