iv prob ask this before ,,, but i got a 1.8 cvh lump with a 1.6 head on it , its due to soon to go in my mk1 fezzie soon but,, im not sure if i should should use the 1.6 or 1.8 cam belt?? , im gonna use the 1.6 pulleys,,.

thanx rodney,,,,,,.

are you using a turbo?otherwise the compression will be too low without changing pistons as well.
as for the belt run a tape measure round all the pulleys, the belt will be marked with its length

sweet ill do that , im gonna see if i can have the head skimmed enougth to sort the compression out??

theconrodkid - 11/5/04 at 07:12 PM

think you wil have to change pistons as thy are a diffo shape, skimming the head wont be enough

so what would i have to do to fit the pistons???

have a look at one of the boy racer ford web sites, there is probly more to it than that

Sorry conrod but I think you'll find that 1.8 cvh with 1.6 head means that the compression ratio will actually be HIGHER. Its an old trick that I used on Kent engines (Replace pistons with same size pistons from next engine down) AND Pinto's, fit 1.6GT head (same size valves & cam shaft as 2.0) but compression goes up to about 11:1.

Enjoy.

Oh and the 1.6 head will have smaller valves and ports than a 1.8 so that will drastically alter/increase the air flow through the carb giving some wierd/unusal running characteristics.

I think you're getting the engines mixed up. I've read it lowers compression when fitted to the Zetec engineso you can fit a turbo and up the capacity.

jgg,we tried this with chrisw,s engine, the pistons are a totally diffo shape with a lot less squish on the 1800,s,i know about the Xflow trick, its just a smaller cutout in the piston tops on 1300,s

the engine i got is from chriss w ,

i got a prob with the sump deep bit at the wrong end , and the pick up pipe is wrong end too , so i gotta play bout with them,,.
