XR4x4 LSD and rear disc set up
FASTdan - 16/9/10 at 10:25 AM

I have the chance of bagging the entire rear end from one of these cars for free. Only thing is it'll involve lifting the old beast onto its side in an allotment and a lot of cutting with a stil saw.

Question is, is it worth the effort? Do LSD's help much on a 7? What about ratio's - must admit I dont even know what we're running now, came out of an 88 2.0 injection sierra.

Rear disc set up might be nice - brake biasing etc?

The car is road use with occasional track use.

If it's free then it's worth having IMO.

When you say cutting, do you mean the shell?

The whole rear end drops of on a subframe secured by 6 bolts - much easier!

should be 3.92 ish on the 2.0i

or it was on mine and gives rapid acceleration and for free YES YES YES

3.62 innit? That's what mine is, off an XR4x4...

big_wasa - 16/9/10 at 10:42 AM

On its side and drop the subframe and its easier than chopping it up. Dont try and take the bits of on the car as that is a bitch.

An easy £150's worth on ebay if not more and all for a mornings work.

Mine is a 3.92 and it came from a 2.0L injection double over head cam xr4x4.

snap, mines the same, 3.92 2.0 dohc

but arent they the 7.5" heavier diff?

bolt on shafts, non LSD was what I beleived?

however if you do have it then I would like to buy the propshaft, can cut it up shorter if you wish as I would need it posting LOL

rear UJ to the diff with 18" of tube would be good enough

Nope they are 7" and have LSD with bolt on etc

tony-devon - 16/9/10 at 12:10 PM

oh ok, was just going on what I was told

mines from a 2.0 dohc model, but its a 7.5 non LSD, bolt on shafts

guess it was a different version

nick205 - 16/9/10 at 12:28 PM

TOP TIP!

(hopefully not pointing out the obvious to you)

Undo the rear hub nuts while the car is on its wheels - much easier than after

tony-devon - 16/9/10 at 12:50 PM

and one of them goes the wrong way, I found this out the hard way LOL

made plates to bolt to the studs, parked a car on top of the wishbone, and still managed to bend a crowbar into a letter P shape

then read on here about one nut being reverse thread, hmm sure enough it was that one.

FASTdan - 16/9/10 at 02:41 PM

Sorry just to clarify, the XR4x4 is the 2.9 'proper' version

When I said 2.0i - that is what our current diff came from, but it was a 2.0 injection pinto sierra.

Ha didnt realise about the sub frame, well I guess that makes it easier.

tony-devon - 16/9/10 at 03:52 PM

well I want a propshaft no matter what it is LOL

can cut that off if you want

but a sensible price would be much appreciated

FASTdan - 16/9/10 at 04:03 PM

No worries Tony - if we go ahead I'll make sure I get the prop.

big_wasa - 16/9/10 at 04:58 PM

I would like a cheap v6 gear box if its a Mt75

mcerd1 - 16/9/10 at 05:27 PM

deffinatly worth having for nowt - I've seen folk sell them on ebay for £100

as above most are 7"

all have bolt-on shafts and rear discs

2.0's are 3.92
V6's are 3.62 (more common)

some later cars had 7.5" rear diffs (just what was left in the ford parts bit that week as far as I can work out)

it doesn't take long once they are on there side

30min later:

I got a prop now, thanks anyway but Im a very happy bunny

norm007 - 18/9/10 at 04:16 PM

Rear disc set up might be nice - brake biasing etc?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would be interested in the diff if you want to sell it???

Cheers,
