Hi,

Just took a diff out of a 93 sierra with a 2.0 engine.

The serial on it is 85GG 4025 CB and I can't find any reference to this number...

Not even sure if it is a 7" or a 7,5"...

It has bolt on shafts and rear solid disks.

Any clues on what it might be?

I think you are looking at the casting number on the case rather than the serial number which should be on a tag on one of the bolts holding on the rear cover.

I will take a bet at 3.91

I'll take the bet as I think it will be a 3.64

You can remove the backplate. Empty oil. Give each bolt head a sharp tap with a hammer first (steel in ally corrosion). Diff ratio will be written on gear. You can see if it's a viscous diff. I vote 3.62.

Being as it's a 93 jobby, it will almost certainly be a 2 Ltr DOHC, so I go for a 3.91, but could be wrong, Cheers Ray

minitici you were right I was looking at the case casting numer.

It is a 7.5" for sure.

There is a plate on a bolt that has the following:

89GG AA 391
4A OM18

I will open it tomorrow and see who was right

That will give me 113mph top speed according to ther Gear Calc on the BEC sub Forum.

Any tips on removing the back plate? Seems v well stuck on.

Never mind; just kept whacking it with a lump of wood (after removing all of the bolts!) and it eventually popped off.

Providing the plats has no been swapped its a 3.91:1
