Fuel Tank Mountings - rubber strip
givemethebighammer - 30/7/04 at 10:41 PM

I intend to use a "strap" type setup to mount my fuel tank, question is the rubber strip between the strap and the fuel tank there purely to stop the strap rubbing on the tank or does it also serve to isolate the tank from vibration as well ?

I have various materials available

1. Camping roll mat (10mm thick)
2. self adhesive closed cell foam strip (5mm thick)
3. Bicycle inner tubes (??? thick)

any of these any good or do I need something else ?

thanks

I used option 2, seems to work, stops any rattling. Although not on the road yet, I've had a bit of a blast and it's nice and quiet.

Mine's bolted straight to the chassis via bars welded across the bottom of the tank and went through SVA fine. Think the rubber is just to stop the straps rubbing on the tank???

Messed around with this all day today. Ended up using the 5mm self adhesive closed cell foam.

thanks
