I've seen lots of threads which talk about appropriate alternative oil filters for a X/flow or Zetec engine. As far as I can gather the renault 5
filter has the same thread (3/4" and the same seal diameter (72mm) - do any racers use this filter? Are there any arguments about why not to use
it? I notice that the filter spec from europarts describe the Ford filters as "3/4 - 16" whereas the Renault filter just says 3/4" -
are these the same? I'd guess that the 16 relates to the pitch...
There are posts which talk about an Alfa Romeo filter which is a 1/3 the height of the original filter, but I can't see a thread which tells you
which Alfa Romeo filter has these ideal characteristics...
I used an R5 filter on a blacktop Zetec and had no problems, I have one still Halfords part HOF066 still boxed on the shelf, no use to me, if you want it to try, and are near Sheffield its yours for the taking......
I've used R5 filters on a Zetec before and can confirm they fit.
Also XR4x4 I believe is the same and short, but not tried that one.

On a recent build I used a Coopers Z87. This is about 60mm long/deep, and essential to clear the steering down shaft.
Also a Fram PH2834 fits.
From the i'net, Dunnel and Scholar engines use Crossland 659.
Be careful, some similar looking and same thread filters don't have the valve that the above filters have. Thread is a 3/4"-16tpi, I think?
Standard on most Fords.
Your motor factor should be able to cross reference any of the above.
Cheers,
Nev.
The R5 filters are not 3/4". They are 20 mm.

As Warren points out the Renault filter has a different thread. At least one person on here has had problems using a Renault filter on a Zetec, IE the filter fell off.
The newer R5 has a 20mm thread the older ones are 3/4 unf
