as above the cb1000r is a 2009, just wandering what the difference is engine wise?

I think you're thinking of the old CBR1000f - a big horrible thing made in a jelly mould (decent cheap engine donor though for a truly locost BEC).

I think the difference is just an evolution between models - bikes will rarely go more than 2 years without a major update.

CB1000R is a naked bike with a detuned Fireblade engine, about 130bhp, but quite a bit more torque. The CBR1000RR AKA Fireblade has about 170-175bhp from the same years as the CB1000R.
