I'm hoping to get an engine swap done over winter/spring.
I will need a custom shaft when I get to that point, I'm guessing I'd get the two halve machined and welded somehow?
does anyone have anywhere they'd recommend to do this or what would you do to get a custom shaft?
Cheers
Jon
Get Autoprop to make you one from scratch, £120ish
that's pretty reasonable, thought it would be more than that.
<---------I should have Registered Trader here. I can do it for you
I did my own, I really wouldnt recommend you used it for road use though. I'm only doing it for mock up 'till i can get proper ones made.
I drove a 7 once where a cut and shut driveshaft broke. I wouldn't trust them to be honest

awesome welding skills there Liam, do you weld for a living? Its the prop I need not the drive shaft sorry but its the same principle I guess.
no i don't weld for a living but the guy who does weld for me on critical jobs is an absolute pro does it day in day out.
I wish I could weld that good
Finished solid shafts need to be heat treated before you can weld them properly, the weld just lays on the top of the material and you don't get any penetration in to the material. They are ok for mocking up but after awhile they will seperate after alittle abuse. Unless you like waiting to be recovered it's just for the best to get them made. Tubula drive/prop shafts should have the ends/splines/UJ's cut off each end and new material put between them.

What he said,
If you do want to weld, then there is a prop place in Coventry that will friction weld drive shafts for you.
