I have a ford 1.6 litre Zetec-E 16v engine from a mondeo which I want to tune(on a budget!) I am restricted to the 1.6L engine because of racing
requlations. I am thinking of going down the route of using Bike Carbs with a megasquirt ecu and possibly upgrading the stock cams.
Any ideas what sort of power I would be looking at with these mods?
Any other advice other advice on modifying this engine also welcome.
Thanks

The suzuki throttle bodies seem to be the preferd option for throttle body coversion. Any particular reason for this?

I am hoping to get started in a series called autocross. Its a series thats run here in Ireland. Its similar to AutoGrass in the uk. Beginners are not
permitted to drive anycar / special over 1600cc in the first year of competition hence the reason im running with the 1.6 zetec. I should be able to
transfere the throttle bodies and megasquirt to a 2.0 litre zetec se or duratec after ive completed my first year. All going well!!!
hi. use the search function, will give you plenty of info. including what year gsxr bodies to get, listed as (k1,k2,k3 etc) and what are easiest to split. my understanding is you want to split them individually not just into pairs but i could be wrong. flak monkey on here will sell you complete setups, also i think will fastdan, who has an ebay shop with lovely looking manifolds that you can use.
Thanks Mrwibble will do.

Definately, Will be in touch. thanks!
p.s like the Class 9 GTO!!
if you like that you would like the v8 4.0L lexus turbo powered autograss mini we did!
The 1.6 Zetec E is heavily restricted by the head. Miniscule ports and tiny valves means there's very little tuning potential compared to the 1.8 and 2.0 engines. The 1.6 Zetec-SE engine is a much better bet, all alloy so lighter and the head is capable of producing far more power than the 1.6 Zetec-E.

Sounds like a plan! As you say you could swap to a 2.0L blacktop in the future. A good stock 2.0L zetec will make 175BHP, never done a 1.6L but i would expect 130BHP.
Let me know if you need any help / advise.

I think you'd do very well to get 130bhp out of a 1600 zetec. they are 90bhp as standard, and are heavily restricted by port sizing. A stock 2000 zetec produces 130bhp or 145bhp depending on year and spec. you might make 175 with ITB's, good exhaust and ecu. anything more and from what i've been told you need a performance head and cams.
1600 is still a good engine though, had one in a mondeo and it never felt to slow for the car. revs well like all zetecs.
Thanks for all the comments! I know the 1.6 Zetec-e is not the best engine out there by a long way but I picked one up very cheap!.
I was wondering dose anyone know if the Cylinder Head can be swapped or changed?
