Noticed this on Pistonheads earlier:
** LINKY Ford reveals 125bhp 1000cc engine LINKY**
Might make a good choice in a couple of years for kits with the lower emissions & tax.
Sounds like a decent output and I'm sure with a bit of tweaking it could be a bit higher.
nice but not really new i think autocar spoke to ford 5 years ago and they said that in a few years the family hatchback would be powered by 1000cc or less turbo engine to meet emmisions still rubbish compared to a bike engine
114g/km isn't that amazing. My 8 year old diesel does better than that
99.9% of PH missed the whole point of the engine as a cheap way to propel medium/small sized cars for the masses and not sounding like a tractor
good to see petrol making a come back imo
As "afj" said, still rubbish compared to a bike engine, bring on the comments CEC boys

how long would a 1000cc bike engine last in a focus i wonder? hmm?
it still burns oil. were going to burn every last drop so the main objective should be burning it cleanly... not slowly. just my opinion!
114g/km and 56.5mpg are hardly great figures are they?
The size/cost saving of losing the 4th cylinder is probably more than lost in the cost and packaging of the turbo.
3cyl engines sounds odd however you fuel them so you might as well use diesel.
No manufacturer is really taking the bull by the horns and making proper lightweight tin tops. I keep seeing the new VW Polo and mistaking it for a
Golf it's so big and heavy.
But whats that stuck on the end of the head?? A vac pump ? so making it a diesel or a high pressure fuel pump run of the cam? still could be a pic of a diesel... some of it looks like like that French engine with one cylinder lumped off..

Bit of a thred resurection, but thought this was worthy of note:
***1.0-LITRE FORMULA FORD LAPS NORSCHLEIFE IN 7:22***
The eco-boost engine seems to be going quite well.
Who'll be first to put it in a kit??
Ford also Do a 1.6 ecoboost as well.
Has 178bhp as standard form and blue fine and superchips do a plug and play ecu remap that can increase power by about 17%.
Bec are in the past

178bhp as standard from a 1600cc engine..... [y]Yawn[/y]
The ZX10R makes 197bhp as standard from a 1000cc AND is less than 50% of the weight
BEC are still the future.
Phil
Oh how I wish these Ford engines were available now! I would not have put the SR20DET into my car. The weight alone makes up for the slight lack of
power, and ultramodern to boot.
However, the FF in the vids would cost quite a bit more than the 20 k people expect. A real racing one can be double that easily.
