So, last time my Pinto actually ran was about 4 years ago.

It had done 1800 miles since a full-gasket rebuild. I'm guessing I ought to change the oil/filter after that time sitting.

However! Should I just undo the sump plug and drain the oil out cold?

Or, do I fire it up and warm up the oil as I would when changing it on my tintop? If the reason to change the oil is that it's become acidic (or whatever happens to it with time!) then currently that oil is all sitting at the bottom of the sump. If I warm it up then I'm spreading the 'bad' oil all round the engine and some will be left in there once I fit the new filter and oil.


Best course of action?

Change the cambelt, change the oil, remove the dizzy and prime the oil pump, little bit of 3 in 1 oil down the bores, spin on the starter with the plugs removed.

Refit the dizzy and plugs, attempt a start

i personly would just drain whats in there, and refill, as any oil thats left lurking woill be diluted so much, i doubt it would matter

It will need to be cranked over for a while before starting, but as its an old engine, it would do that anyway

As said, bit of WD down the bores, a lot of checking and turn over by hand until it feels free.
So easy to catch a ring on an engine that has stood.
Would also recomend taking the dizzy out and spinning the oil pump with a drill, if you can't get pressure the take oil pump out and pack with vasaline.
