hi all
is there a way i can check my alternator?
my dash warning light is staying on and it only just started to do it.
only just completed my wiring so not sure if its alternator or my wiring!!!
thanks
steve
Start the engine check the voltage across battery at 2000 rpm shouldbe 13.4v to 14.9v
Hi,
You can check if its charging by measuring the voltage across the battery with the engine running, Should be 13.5-14.4v.
If below 13.5v, rev the engine 10 1500rpm and see if the voltage goes up, if not you have a fault.
Check the alternator wiring, normally there will be 1 thick wire that goes to the battery + (somtimes via the starter) and 1 thin wire that goes to
the dash warning light. If you disconnect this thin wire with the ignition on the dash light should go out.
Has your alternator got more that 2 wires / connections? jap alternators are alittle different.
If the wiring looks OK the alternator is knakered!
thanks for prompt replies
i did put voltmeter across terminals but never revved it so will try again.
alternator has 2 wires. 1 thin goes to dash and other goes to starter motor
Should be to the battery connection on the starter.
