Fitting weber carbs on softmounts
Autosri - 5/12/11 at 09:01 AM

Hi all first winter of owning the car so it's off the road for a bit to get loads of jobs done on it and one is replace the rubber soft mounts on the weber dcoe 40s as they are all a little perished

Got one of these kits from eBay Item #: 150711467838.

Basically do I put anything on the sealing surface like lithium grease ect to aid sealing and how tight do I do the nuts with those plastic/rubber bits between the cup washers

Thanks

I personly do not like those rubber washers and cups , as you can not gauge how tight or square they are tightening the carb to the manifold,

I have just bought these 160553441361

Much better !!

I just bought the rubber type as that's what is fitted at the minute so assumed they would be okay

I always found the thackeray washers would break after a while, which cocks one or other carb up/down slightly throwing the carb balance out, the rubber type last for years.

I set all the gaps between the cap edges to around 3mm (so 3mm of rubber is visible), then they're all the same and tight enough.

I also found rubber washers/cups/mishabs were best. Thackery washers used to break at about 1 every 1000 miles and the plastic plate and two big O rings instead of the mishabs were dogs as well.
