So she still won't start, so tonight conducted a crude timing test and was getting compression on cylinder one approx 90drgrees after tdc according to the timing arrow on the cam pulley. My crude engine knowledge tells me this is wrong?
No it is right on 4 cylinder 4 stroke you should get compression every 90 degrees of cam rotation --- ie 2 compressions per crank rotation.
Sounds like its back to first principals. Cam box off, find tdc using the crank markers for number 1 and make sure the valves are closed. Then make
sure the rotor arm is pointing to number one plug.
If anything is not lined up, you have a problem...
Set no. 1 piston to TDC measure lift at inlet and exhaust, they should be the same, the next rotation of the crank should have valves closed and distributor arm pointing to no 1 spark plug
