LT77 & R380 Gearboxes... Similarities?
scootz - 26/12/11 at 06:20 PM

Am I right in thinking that these two gearboxes share the same bellhousing bolt pattern?

Am I also right in thinking that the R380 is the 'stronger' of the two?

Any info gratefully received!

I'm no expert, but I've worked on a lot of LandRovers which are the main user of them & they are similar to look at & I know they are interchangeable as I've seen the R380 fitted to older LandRovers but I dont know if the bellhousing swaps between boxes or they just fit the bellhousing & box that belong together as the engine bolt pattern in the LandRovers will be the same between many engines.
The R380 is the favoured one to have, reverse is right & back on it & the LT77 has it left & foward as an easy way to tell them apart.

The R380 is the modern swap to have, as suggested above - retro fitted to older models.
