My tin-top engine is approaching the 120k mark all too fast
so according to the book of lies that means its nearly 20k overdue for checking the valve clearances and its starting to sound a little tappety now
(although its far from the worst I've heard)
Its also due a cam belt any time now (again ) and this time I'm probably going to have a bash myself
I'm assuming there are a few of you on here that have done one of these engines before - how easy a job is it really ?
I know I need to sort myself out with the crank stop pin thingy and a 5mm bar for the cams aswell as some pulley holder things - anything else ?
cheers
-Robert
mine wasn't too bad, but it was useful to have a spare pair of hands, I'm not a big bloke, but i think most would find it very awkward to
both hold the crank pulley and undo the crank pulley bolt.
And the job was probably a lot easier for having the engine out of the car. can't help u on the shims.

have done a cam belts on your engine, but never had to adjust valve clearances..welll worth checking inlet manifold control flaps as this is plastic and does break.with engine running does sound a bit like tappet noise(this is a common prob)
My advice would be to look at replacing the cam belt, ignoring the tappets.
It's a 'simple' enough job, as long as nothing breaks or shears getting to the damn thing. For pegs, use drill bits, steel angle to
lock the cams.
Take your time, pull a beer, relax. Be careful.
