Because I found one in work,and the front of my car is stripped i'm fitting an oil cooler for the cost of a thermostatic sandwich plate.
Question is do I need a check valve if the cooler is higher than the sump?am I being thick?

i wouldnt, are you removing the oil to water cooler off the block or leaving that one on as well?

You wouldn't what,fit one?was just going to put the sandwich plate between filter and the other one.only cause the engines now getting hammered big time,its now pulling a tonne less than it used to,but getting 10mpg less than when it was in my tintop,and have seen the turb glowing,which I never did when it was my road car.never had an oil temp gauge,just so don't know if it does cook oil,but the tarnished bits in the engine suggest it might be.if its not a with a thermostatic plate should make no odds? Or do you mean the check valve?I'm just wondering if the extra oil will drain back and then leave a litre is void in the system?

wouldnt fit the check valve.

As long as you fit the thermostatic sandwich plate then fitting the oil cooler will be fine, in fact having the normal one on the engine as well will warm the oil up quicker as well.

Ok cheers.might aswell bolt it on then.what stops the oil running from the other end then?back to tank as it might be in hydraulic terms?can work most things out but don't really understand the flow of the oil flow and it ain't in my manual!
