Which Motorbike Can - A couple of options
mikeb - 20/3/12 at 10:23 AM

I'm looking for a cheap silencer option, this may or may not have to last until IVA.
At the minute its just to keep the neighbours happy but if I do it good enough I'll leave it on.

There's a bike breaker just down the road from me that has a choice of these three can's.

Suzuki GSXR 750

Kawa zx9r

I'm not sure which one would be best
I'm tempted with the TL 1000 as its from the largest capacity bike but has the bracket on (is this IVA)
The zx9r is shiniest but has some scratches and i can't see how to attache a link pipe.

I'm not sure if any of them are IVA due to radius's
Any thoughts. I'm leaning towards the TL 1000.
Anyone made a link pipe or had one made £?

Mike

The tl one might be quite restricive as a v twin is super loud with straight through cans on

The TL1000 had twin cans, so each one only had to cope with a 500cc engine The GSX-R750 will have been be the most powerful bike of those three as long as it came of a post 1998 bike.

I have a ZX12R can for my Striker - it's pretty large for a bike can but titanium so very light and they made over 165bhp so good for mildly tuned 2L engines.

The TL one looks the same and my BANDIT one which is great for quiet track /MOT use but is a bit restrictive.
You can buy on ebay a flange adaptor to fit onto 2" tube which makes it nice and easy though

can you send me a link for the ebay adapter, I could only find reducers.

Is the 3 hole fitting fairly standard so I could swap cans at a later date (i.e if I fancy more noise)

Is there an IVA issue with a non rolled end?

The top two will need a big 4 bolt flange to weld to a tube, this will probally fail SVA, you want a slip on can really then you can hide the sharp clip end next to the body.

Early R1 comes up trumps, also easy to gut and replace with perforated tube once through SVA, those big ali ones are use and dispose

ZX9R can should have 4 studs coming out of it. I've got the ZX12R one on my car and just cut a mild steel plate to suit. Welded plate to link pipe, job done! my can also came with a nice end cap that fits over the 4 studs. Finishes everything off nicely and should keep mr IVA man happy.

Should look something like this:
