Hi all
Im trying to get my chassis ready for dropping my duratec in for the first time and have been busy sorting out the gearbox mounts.
Theres isnt much space in the tunnel and Im also trying to get the engine as far back as possible.
The problem I have at the moment is that the gear box selector shaft area now sits directly under a piece of chassis.
I have a westfield extension so the actial position isnt too much of a problem but there isnt enough clearance to even get this on
So I have two options
1. lower the gearbox mounts so there is enough clearance between the chassis and the gearlever extension plate
Problem with this is there is already very little space between the sides of the gearbox and the chassis.
2. cut the piece of chassis out and add more either side
This is the option I would prefer but just wanted to know what people thought of doing this
I'm not an expert by any means, but personally I would put uprights under the new crossmembers too.
I have just gone through this and went for the, cut the section out option.
Good idea....welding in uprights certainly wont do any harm
Karlak....do you have any photos of how you did yours?

Back from garage
I know the car is filthy, list of things to do this weekend to sort it out after it got caught in a quick shower while moving it.
Looks like I have had done exactly what you were thinking. I didnt do this myself, but it was suggested as a solution and done by someone who has far
more idea about these things than I do.
Excuse the angle of the gearbox, it is sitting high on a piece of wood at the moment, but you get the idea.

Are you planning on using a gear lever extension or just fit it in the standard poistion?
Im trying to decide wether to bother with one now that the gear box is further back......without one the gear stick will be slightly further forward
than it used to be.....but still within reaching distance.
