hi all
I am refurbishing a 1.6 Pinto Sierra engine buit I don't know the year of making neither if it is the 1593 or 1597cc engine, in a way to order a
gasket set.
the block below the big numbers "165" has this alphanumeric code:
65HM6015JA
but in a search I ony saw speeking about engine codes "L... something". why I can't catch in this engine any casting code starting with
"L..." ?
I appreciated any help. thank you.
Amadeu
To get the year its part of the engine number
The code is on a lug near the bell housing
If you look on the burton power web site look up Ford manufacture date chart

LCS and LCT are 1593cc std bore 87.67
LSD and LSE are 1597cc std bore 81.32
Cant trace 65HM6015JA
Link to engine number age code on Burton Performance web site
Linky
why would you want a 1.6 Pinto when there are 2 litre pintos to be had ? The pinto is a relatively heavy engine. I have a 2 litre pinto but would have gone for either a crossflow or CVH to save weight if i was in the market for a 1600 engine.
thanks for trying to help but still with doubts.
if that number 65HM6015JA correspond to anything, the HM belongs to a certain month/year, the JA is another one. which of those is the one to look
at?
regards
Amadeu

easiest place to get the engine code is the donor car's vin plate - I'm not sure that its stamped on the engine at all...
(at least I'e never found it on mine)
you might be best to strip the engine down first, then measure the bore & stroke, that way you'll know for sure
