Is it best to fit a choke cable for bike carbed engines or do people make do without and just take the engine cover off and mnually adjust the choke until its warmed up?
Never needed a choke on my bike carbs. 1 squirt of the accel pedal and it fires straight up then just apply slight revs (+500) for 15-20secs and it will tick over fine. In warm weather I don`t even need to do this!
Normally starts ok without choke. When I start it during the winter I use choke (only because the bonnet is off.)
I fitted a cable to mine , starts fine with the choke.
Denis.
I started without but found it better with a choke fitted you can start the car & let it warm up without having to sit in it tickling the throttle to get it going.
Connected choke cable to the Sierra bonnet catch under the column
I need a bit of choke to start and for 1 or 2 mins on a cold day, then it ticks over ok.
Whith the other engines with serious cams it deco needs the choke to start.
I connected the choke on my carbs - I use it to get going, then push it home after 50 yards or so (once I'm through the junction at the end of my road).
I have a choke but only use it for the first start of the day after the car has not stood for a week or two
