Bike TB trumpet/Velocity Stack kits - market research :-)
FASTdan - 4/5/12 at 02:15 PM

What do people tend to do on their bike bodies for velocity stacks? I notice there are a few kits available aftermarket but most being very expensive (like £150+).

Is there a market for a velocity stack 'kit' if reasonably priced? I've got an idea of a kit that I think could be made reasonably cost-effectively and suit a range of bodies.

I've bought the bike airbox with the tb's and plan to modify that on my conversion from Webers it has 2 short 2 long trumpets but Suzuki must know what they are doing.... or not?

Absolutely they know what they're doing. But most bodies you pick up come minus the air box so its then a case of sourcing a box seperately (making sure right one etc). But undoubtedly a good locost way of doing it.

I have a multitude of bodies in stock that I need to do something with, so I will innevitably be coming up with something but Im interested to see if there's mileage in offering an actual kit. Would be nice to integrate a PX600 baseplate too

I made plaster mould once from which to cast fibreglass trumpets, but the resin i had didnt mix properly so it stayed tacky. The trumpet looked fine, and i was going to coat it in a flame retardant paint but then binned it as i changed engine choice.

I'm using the mid length trumpets from the GSX-R range, these sandwiches the filter backplate.

By chance a set of weber intake trumpets slide right into the GSX-R trumpets, which opens up a lot of other options.( I just had these trumpets in the garage)

Like the bonnet Dan. Not sure what it's got to do with trumpets/velocity stacks though.
On that subject; I am turning mine out of alloy scaffolding tube because they are priced a bit OTT for what you get IMHO.

Sorry my fault for distraction from the thread but at least I've now bumped it to the top again!

Yes They are priced highly, this is the problem I have been coming across everywhere I've looked. Having said that, its not an easy thing to produce and as you will or have found out its quite time consuming on a lathe which in commercial terms makes them pricey.

I like the bonnet sticker

OK the second pic was just showing the full bonnet, the first was to show the fact that the depending in the throttle bodies normal intake trumpets can be fitted and aquired off the bay for a fraction of the price of full bike alloy trumpets.
