Gear linkage - cable or rod?

I have about 960mm between the gearstick lever and the gear shaft.

I'm after some pros cons for which way to go, it's a straight run between both, and needs incorporate room for the flat shifter actuator.

Ive had many comments about how smooth my knob feels with my cable set compared to a linked rod system

I've driven both and prefer Rods...

ps, did I show you a photo of my turned ali and carbon fibre knob in the pub when we were still sober?

Negative - Could do with a few pictures of rod/gear setups for blatant copyright purposes aswell

Anyway, I could make 2 or maybe 3 of this type, but I jus one left with the carbon tube in the 2x2 twill rathe than the Uni Directional weave as pictured below...
