engine dating for IVA
austin man - 21/5/12 at 09:08 PM

Having SVA'd vehicles before and where a pre August 95 engine has been used proof of engine age was required for this I supplied a copy of the engine age codes from the burton catalogue. Is this still the same requirement for the IVA as I plan to fit a pre August 95 Zetec in a new build to get around fitting a CAT and going for twin webbers

I got a letter from Ford to certify the age of my Pinto, still a requirement for the test AFAIK for emissions. Not sure if the Burton route is OK though, someone else may know?

Page from Burton catalog still works for Ford engines at IVA

to answer your question - Yes, the requirements for dating the engine are unchanged with the IVA compared with the SVA. My engine handily had the date moulded onto the block. Very nice of Vauxhall, I thought.!

This is an interesting area for me as my Toyota engine went out of production by 1983. What is classed as acceptable proof of when the engine was made? I have a receipt for the purchase of the engine from a breakers in 1988, would that be enough?

Interesting legal issue then as my latest engine appears to have major components cast long before 98 (some I've seen as old as 96) but it came in a #98 car.

im not going to put my car on the road but how would i go avout proving the age of a rover engine ?

My v5 has eventually arrived and I was surprised to see the engine number listed as 'not known'.
Presumably it's been like this since the car was IVA'd as I cant see the DVLA accepting a later amendment to an unknown engine number. Not sure how it would have got therough the IVA process without an engine number really either.

Is there anyting detrimental about this in terms of emission test levels etc or is it just a good thing (free to change the engine at any time etc) ?
