Morning all.

As part of fitting a V6 and MX-5 box to my Sprite, I have needed to shorten the selector housing. This is easy enough to do, and remarkably straight forward. However, to do it, I've had to split the box open at the tail. This in itself isn't an issue, but the box doesn't use gaskets, just what looks like a good quality gasket paste.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a tube of this stuff? I should also have a tube of Honda bike gasket goo somewhere from my Blackbird re-build. If I can find it, does anyone think this should be suitable? The bike used it in the same way, to seal well machined surfaces, so I figure it should work. If I can find it!

It is probably just RTV sealant.

After a recommendation from a mechanic friend I am now a fan of the Alfa Romeo/Fiat stuff that comes in a tube from any of their parts desks.

is it soft or hard if soft use RTV (allow to partly cure before mating)if it is black and hard hard use the correct type of loctite gasket

You can get a Loctite instant gasket that hardens and gives a good oil tight seal, it is used very successfully among other things for nearly every oil tight joint on the Rover k engine including the cam carrier.

It's a soft grey stuff, so I'll just use some of the RTV sealant I have in the garage.
