I've been looking out for cheap 1.6 cross flow engine to play with and can't seem to find any.
Have they now become so scarce that they ar heard to get hold of, or does no-one want them any more so they don't come up for sale.
Have you include the KA engines in your search ?

I believe the Valencia engine is a later Crossflow derivative sometimes found in the Ka
They are now quite rare, most want the 1.6 the 1.3 and 1.1 cheap but still rare.
I think it's because it's now a very old design, and they're simply fading away. Only the people who maintain classic Fords and nuts
like us who put them in 7s are really interested in them.
They have their good points: it's a very small engine and easy to fit into a tight space. It's also very easy to work on, and people like
Burtons keep lots of tuning bits.
On the down-side though, it costs a fair bit of money to get the power that you can get as standard from a decent Zetec, and you get a lot more power
for your money when tuning something more modern (like a Zetec) . Also, Zetecs are cheap, while good x-flows can cost serious money.
Don't get me wrong - I like my crossflow engine, but if it ever goes seriously wrong then I won't spend any more money on it - I'll be
fitting something more modern.
The KA, valencia, HCS engine is a distant relative of the xflo but shares no interchangeable parts. There is little available tuning wise for these
engines.
Crossflow engines are available but they'll cost you more to buy than a zetec or duratec these days as they are still popular but good units are
getting rare.
No good looking at the KA I would think as they dont have suitable engine mounts as far as I know. I went to look at an XR3 engine once and that didnt
have the mounts drilled or tapped if memory serves me well.

I had trouble sourcing a decent 1.6 xflow a few years back. Long gone are the days when they were cheap and commonly available.
Hard to find a good one!!! Keep it if you get one! I have just sold one to another member & only have the one left now & I won't be selling it! To get one that's truly sorted now you should look at a minimum of 500. If you buy one on the cheap it will cost you that just to rebuild it. Sooooo worth it when rebuilt though. If your not after stupid power but want average power and reliability a rebuilt one will do you a great turn. Having said that about the power they are easy to tune to a good enough standard - pistons, cam, set of 40s etc!!
Hi guys, in relation to this post i have a crossflow engine for sale, sounds really good. Its being removed from my Dutton Melos to make space for a
blacktop zetec.
call for more information 07784131060 im in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

The reason that x-flows are getting rare and expensive if you can find one is the fact that thousands of guys are still running Formula Ford racing cars both here and in the US and Canada. I have one for sale, completely rebuilt back to standard and FF legal. On the test rig ready for a buyer at £2500, complete with dry sump system, electrics and carb with K & N filter.....
