Ford diff: 7.5-inch internals in 7-inch casing

Hi all,

Just wondering if the internals from a 7.5-inch Ford LSD would go into my existing 7-inch open diff. I'd prefer to find a new LSD so as not to have to cannibalise parts (I'm not bothered about the work as I'll overhaul it before it goes in anyway) but I was just wondering if this is theoretically possible if I have no other choice?

Cheers,

Sean

I'm guessing but I wouldnt have thought so. The 7.5" is the diameter of the crown wheel, so it's unlikely it will fit.

But, I'm sure a more knowledgable person will be along shortly...

I've never tried it, but I believe that the 7" and 7.5" measurements refer to the outer diameter of the crown wheel, so I doubt that you'll have any luck making the larger crown wheel fit in the smaller casing.

Whether the inner diameter of the crown wheel is the same where it mounts to the diff itself I don't know, but that would allow you to swap teh 7" CW onto the 7.5"diff if so. Somehow I doubt it - that'd make it far too easy!

Won't fit.
Yes the Crown wheels are 7" or 7 1/2"
The casings are bigger for the 7 1/2" for the very reason that it's bigger, Ford won't waste money (and weight) on a bigger casing for no reason.
The crown wheel is matched to the pinion and the pinion would also have to sit further back.
I do have a 3.62 7" LSD Lobro from a low milage Sierra 4x4 V6 estate I am happy to sell but your a long way from Essex.
