Hi guys,

need some advice re webers.

I have a 2.0 raceline 160 bhp zetec in my westie,running twin 40's.

Ticking over fine and when you blipp the throttle it is fine,but when the accelerator is pressed slowly building the revs,it goes all fluffy between 1200 rpm-1800 rpm and pops through the carbs.Over that fine,bit of a pain at 30 mph....

I contacted weber and they told me I need a set of 45's as this has 5 stage holes and no fluffy or flat spots.


what do we think???????

Mine was the same between 1200 and 160o made sure I kept it above this never caused me any problems its something to do with the progression holes newer carbs have 5 holes older ones have 4 holes I was told that a fifth could be drilled

Progression Issue

The later 45's have 5 progression holes which cure it
Webcon used to have the jig for modifying the carb's and adding the progression holes
One lad i remember on the WSCC modified his own with a drill and just went for it, Luckily it worked but it could have gone pear shaped

Some folk have had success by using a bigger Idle jet to help mask it


What size Idle jet are you using and what size chokes ?

the problem I think is mine only has 3 holes,on the 40's so maybe better looking for another set of s/h 45's

Ok choke size 30mm

idle jet 45 F9

primary emulsion tube F11

primary main jet 115

these are standard fitting for the 40's if I changed the jets would it help ??

and if so what would you suggest.
