Want to get a bit more bhp from my 1.4 MPI k series engine was hoping for a caterham engine but got outbid did manage to win the caterham ecu.
I have read about fitting vvc exhaust cams and suspect I could replace the 48mm plastic throttle body with a 52mm.
Anymore mods I could do.
How do caterham get 130 BHP anyone know the cams they use.

i found the same problem with my 1.4 k. and was advised the best possible mod was the 6 speed box. the 6 speed was designed for this engine but are expensive.

Just wanting to get the engine upto the same BHP as the caterham.

Cheapest way is to swap for a 1.6 it gives a very useful boost in midrange but still the has the the free revving nature of the 1.4, in contrast the 1.8 feels choked.

The 52 mm throttled body gives no real gain on a 103ps 1.4, you will read lots of reports of it giving great gains on Rover 25 but that only really applies to the low insurance group derated 81ps version that had a throttlebody fitted with a stop that restricted the angle the butterfly could open.
The plastic throttlebody is fine provided a the standard clip or a cable tie is used to retain the airfilter trunking --- never use a Jubilee clip as this will distort the plastic body.

VVC exhaust cams are like unicorn droppings -- few and far between and not cheap.

Speak to Dave Andrews of DVA power - he sorted my Elise engine. Although it was a 1.8. Had piper 270s verniers, 52mm throttle body, hurricane induction system, lots of head work - larni clubsport exhaust system all resulting in nearly 200 bhp! However - different ecu is required which is rather expensive!!!
