Hi All,
I have been offered an Ford ST170 engine but it has 110,000 miles on it.
There are no faults with it, no noises, leaks etc.
Question is how many miles are these engines good for?
I would imagine there is still some life left yet?
Advice and opinions appreciated.
Thanks as always.
I suppose its a question of how much. I took a punt on a 2.0 blacktop zetec with 100k on it. stuck a new cam belt, head gasket and valve seals and it
runs sweet. even had the hone marks still in the bores.
So if cheap enough I would go for it.
Can't comment specifically but I regularly run my cars (various makes) up to 150k+ miles without too many problems.
Providing it's been serviced regularly, the correct oil has been used, it's not been thrashed or crashed and the price is right it has to be
worth a punt.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe10
I heard from Dave Baker (Puma racing) that he had taken a 200k one apart and you could still see traces of honing
If its cheap at 110k have a punt
Great, looks like I have competition.
Depends on Country of Mfg :-) Not all makers are created equal.
Over here on the Left Coast of North America, I know that Madza 2.3 engines... the Japanese mfg'd version of Duratechs are valued Far higher,
used than the Ford made things.. For genuine reason actually
At that age the basic units and body should be fine but be prepared/budget for brakes (particularly brake pipes), some suspension work and a
possible clutch change.
The condition of the tyres can also have a major affect on value.
Just don't pay too much for it because of fuel consumption, road tax and insurance cost the seller might have a jjob shifting it.
