Re-fitting Pinto Sump
James - 24/9/02 at 09:12 PM

Hi Folks,

Just in from garage as have a bit of a problem!

Just re-fitting the sump and looking through Heynes it says in addition to a new gasket I need to use 'sealing compound' to go around where the gasket goes. Is this really the case? Is it really needed?

I don't have any 'sealing compound' whatever the hell that actually is but I may have some of the stuff that you can bodge make/seal gaskets with. Will this work?

Bear in mind it's a two piece cork gasket with two rubber strips to go over the crank.

Any help very greatfully recieved,

Thanks, James

sealing compound = instant gasket

not always needed but can stop havin to do it again

you are suposed to put sealing compound,i use some black gunge from fiat where the gasket joins the rubber seals,a bit of dollop elsewhere on the gaskets just holds them in place

aye just wack some of that instant gasket crap on it and it will give it a decent seal

James
I take it you have chopped the sump a bit then since your re-fitting.

if u do use it dont use too much as it can block oil ways if it falls off the inside
