Polo Rad Fan Switch - Connection & Waterproofing
Dick Axtell - 21/6/13 at 09:05 PM

Hello LCBers.

Those of you who have used the Polo rad will have come across this prob. Which connector did you use, for the Polo switch?
And more importantly, how did you seal it against water ingress?

I'll read your comments with interest.

Easier just to buy a Renault or Fiat fan switch it has standard 15 amp Lucar blades

I used a Passat switch that had spade connectors.
Never worried about water ingress and 5 years in I have had no trouble.

Can't remember the part number but it didn't seem like a rare thing.

Hi
Just used regular insulated crimp connectors
on both the switch & the fan never had any problems with water ingress
If you are that worried use the crimp connectors & encapsulate them with silicone.
Good luck.

Again, spade connectors here.
If concerned, give the connections a squirt of protection wax or even chain lube.
(I find the aerosols of protection wax handy for all sorts of stuff!)

I made my own water proof connector, not sure if its similar to the connector on the rad switch but worked well for the speedo sensor on my c20xe.

I didnt have the correct crimper, so I just pinched them with pliers best I could

Hot glue gun to seal it all up.

I swap the switch or find a connector from a scrap yard.

Not the flat three pin one is it

Mine is very similar to this one. Lucar type blade contacts, and there are 2.

Just fished this out of the bin. Its from a caddy/Polo with a two stage switch. The same plug is also used on the single stage switch with one wire left out. Then they went to a round type.
