bike carb help please
aka Keith - 26/6/13 at 07:23 PM

Hi, i have had the car off the road for a couple of weeks and went to start it the other day.

Would not start and engine flooded, so whipped he plugs out, and burned them off on the gas stove, also turned the fuel pump off and got rid of the excess fuel by spinning the engine over on the starter motor.

recharged battery and when to start it. again no fire and engine flooded - what I did notice was the fuel pump (bike pump) did not stop clicking when priming the engine, ie there must be a leak somewhere.

so tonight after battery recharge again, plugs out etc etc again fuel pump is still clicking over. and again engne will no fire and is flooded.

whipped the cards off and when I turn on th fuel pump, carbs 1,2 and 4 continue to drip fuel - i assume that this is ont normal, but the question is what is wrong and why all of a sudden? what do I need to do to fix?

cheers
Craig

Stuck open floats in the carbs?

Smart rap on the float chambers will often unstick bike carb floats.

thanks folks,

will try that when I get home tonight. And just to be clear, is that "smart rap on the float chambers" actually on the chambers or on the carb housing?

Cheers

Hi,

Suggest you remove the bowls and check the float levels and the condition if the float valves. Remove any crud and ensure you have a filter between the pump and the carbs.

Otherwise, check to ensure that the pump is <3psi
