Big End Bearing breaking up
Ben_Copeland - 19/7/13 at 03:44 PM

Friend of mine just sent me this.

That's from a z20let. Vauxhall turbo engine.

What's caused that? Not seen them break up like that before !

Hmm................ new one on me

My vote is for is a combination of the bearing being over loaded and and manufacturing flaw.

I have seen that before on a seat leon turbo and it's down to being thrashed when the oil is cold

Any evidence of detonation on the top of the pistons?

Det can cause all sorts of odd problems.

Looks like fatigue ?
Engine Overloaded when cold or as Bailey performance said detonation ?

Hows the crank journals looking ?

Ben_Copeland - 19/7/13 at 09:27 PM

Hes still yet to look at the rest of them, but the crank looks ok

perksy - 19/7/13 at 09:48 PM

Was this the bearing furthest away from the oil pump mate ?

Ben_Copeland - 19/7/13 at 10:02 PM

If its same as my c20xe, i believe thats the middle one.
