Type 9 extension removal

Hi,

Before I remove the rivets/ally sheet around and in front of the gear selector, is it possible to remove the selector and extension from a type 9 in a locost in situ, or do you need to remove the box?

I need to sort out the selector as it was sloppy, could not find 5th and now I can only select 2nd!

if you can't see an obvious way to do it then you might just have to bite the bullet and take the pannel off

the problem is that everyone builds them differently so your's could be put togetehr a completly different way


removing the box would seem a bit extreme though.... besides you often need to remove the gearlever etc. to get the box out easily

I will remove the rivets and pannels to see if I can get to all the bits (the prop pannel only gives me access to the extension and not the original selector).

Do you mean the whole alloy part ? if so i would say no
you have to remove the prop /the speedo drive by removing the plug opposite where the drive fits then remove the drive its self
also there is a plate on the drivers side you have to remove near the top its fixed on with two 8mm bolts [ 13mm spanner ]

No, just the selector extension which bolts into the original selector hole.

If it's anything like mine to remove then it's just a case of removing the three bolts securing the gear lever after selecting, I think second gear, then using a pin punch (possibly 5mm ) drift out the roll pin securing the part the gear lever engages with from the main selector shaft , after removing that, then unbolt the remote from the gearbox rear casing, slide it rearwards to remove from the selector shaft, then it's just a case of removing the selector shaft extension by drifting out the roll pin holding the selector extension from the main selector shaft. It may be that you don't need to remove the whole remote , it may be that your missing just the gear lever saddle on the selector shaft , probably a couple of quid from Ford

Thanks for your instructions. I will try undoing the 3 bolts/pin and then fit a new the saddle, which will hopefully sort the problem out.
