Duratec plumbing - quick overheating
black.viper - 3/8/13 at 08:38 AM

I connected my Duratec engine due this diagram.

But after a few minutes when engine running on Idle, temperature start quickly rising and the water level in the expansion start quickly rising too... temperatur on engine is 102°C, but front hoses are still cold and cooler too! I´m using thermostat and water rail from RWD motorsport. Where is mistake in my connection?

The bypass pipe needs reconnecting from the stat housing to the back of the cylinder head this allows a small amount of water to circulate through until stat opens.

Expansion tank then connects to heater connection on stat and small connection on back of cylinder head.

I'd be checking the temp sensor in a pan of boiling water or straight out of the kettle, if it only takes a few minutes of idling to get that hot doesn't seem right to me, is there anyway of testing the thermostat out of the car too, what temp is it meant to open?

Don't suppose you've got access to an infra red thermometer thingy?

Hope you get it sorted.

Cheers

Rich

Thermostat opens at around 85 initially mine was connected slightly different and the stat wouldnt open, most Durateckers stick with the ford arrangement as it works

If the bypass not working correctly thermostat never opens because its the small flow of water through it that warms it up.

I got mine up to over 100 without stat opening, works great now.

Teeing in most probably will work.

Thx for help. Now the temperature of all hoses are identical and increasing steadily. But my idle and maps are horrible, I have to tune a more and more time.
