Pinto/Webbers
smac - 16/10/04 at 10:20 AM

Hello everyone. New here. Great site etc

Ive just bought a part finished chassis (mk Im told) with a 2l pinto. I saw it running on its original single carb but the guy wanted to keep that so threw in a set of twin forties instead. These probably need servicing and i dont have the throttle linkages yet so I cant get it running on these.

The webbers arent quite a pair ( one is 40dcoe90 and other 40dcoe35) and on phoning webber the guy said 1. they probably wont work together & 2. You want 45s for a 2l pinto anyway.

I want to be sure what to do before i do any more spening. Any thoughts appreciated.

Incidentally Im in North Leeds and would be interested to nosy at a completed car if anyone near wouldnt mind.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

I am in Masham if you want a ride out (the other side of Harrogate) Mine is a 2.0 pinto with 45's.

I believe you can get away ok with 40's if the engine is not too highly tuned but they do need to be a matched pair.

Hope this Helps

Mark

From standard to moderate states of tune, 40's will be ideal, if not better than 45's. BUT, ideally they do need to be a matched pair. You might just get away with them if they have the same configeration of progression drillings-whcih tends to be the big difference, but there are many other subtle changes that will affect how they work as a pair too...

Had a closer look at the carbs at the weekend and they are in fact very different so I not going to even try. Fortunately my mate next door thinks he has a pair of 40s from a 2.0 l Alfa which he'll lend me to get it going.

Mark, thanks for the offer of a look it see. If i can get away one saturday Ill take you up.

4 or 5 dabs on the throttle pedal then turn starter. Catch it on the throttle when it fires then try to stop it stalling till it warms up
