Hi all....
My first post after purchasing a locost. wanted some advice. the chassis i got came with a 1300 kent engine out of an escort. not sure whether to keep
it or upgrade to a honda i-vtec of rover k series. also how much would i fetch for the kent.
Thanks
Ben

Keep it! The xflow engine sounds fantastic at max revs.
I have one in my race car and with bike carbs plus a few other mods it is pretty quick.
2nd hand a complete 711 engine is worth around £200.

If you want significantly more power then now is the time to switch to a different engine. You can put a 1600 crossflow straight in, but getting more
than about 130bhp starts getting expensive.
However, don't underestimate the amount of cost and work required to change. For a K series you obviously need the special bellhousing to mate
to a Ford gearbox, different engine mounts and you will need to sort out fueling and ignition.
For a Honda i-VTEC engine I presume you mean either the K20A (Civic Type R) or F20C (S2000)? Much more work here, since you'll want the S2000
box to go with the engine, and therefore different gearbox mounts and different propshaft. These are physically very tall engines, so you might need
to consider a dry sump to get sufficient clearance.
Using e.g. a 2.0L Zetec E will minimise the amount of work and is a well trodden path, and can make pretty good power though obviously not up to Honda
levels.
