nick-york - 31/10/13 at 10:39 PM

I've been looking on here and i can't find any pictures or details of the straps that secure the fuel tank . I just need to know how the straps are kept tight round the tank.how and where the straps are fixed to the chassis ?If anybody could point me in the direction of some pictures that would be great as well. Cheers.

I just bonded my tank to the chassis with sikaflex. It's how the factory do it, and Mr IVA was more than happy with it.

The base of the tank is located in a cradle made from ally angle, straps in ally strip and a top brace in ally angle, that also forms the base of the boot box. Rock solid after 1800miles.

Steel strip is better for tank straps. Ally tends to work harden and crack at the corners. I've had a tank fall out of a Striker (they're suspended from beneath) in front of me on track, spilling its entire contents which luckily it didn't ignite. I swapped mine from ally to steel the next time I had my tank out after that. The old ones were cracking on inspection.

The steel doesn't need to be very thick. I cut a 1" wide strip from some 20 or 21 gauge sheet. Using steel straps on an ally tank does require some rubber between the two to prevent corrosion. There's specific rubber strip available (if you can trace it) but I just threaded the strip through an old bicycle inner tube. You'll also need an earth wire from the tank to chassisto prevent static build-up.
