Hi all ! Im trying to assemble my petrol tank to filler cap fittings . I've uploaded some.pictures in my archive and going to try and put them on here . I have a filler cap end from an old rover mg.A locking petrol cap from a different type of rover and a thick piece of heavy duty rubber. I've cut a hole in the rubber so that it acts as a spacer and would make the cap flush with the side of the car when fitted .I was pleased with it but now i have some concerns as to whether it is a good idea or not! Firstly petrol would probably get splashed on the rubber when the tank was filled .I don't think this is ideal now. So would this be an iva fail ? Or just bad practice ? Also on the mg rover pipe there is the overflow pipe . Do i need one or can i just cut it off and just be careful when filling up ?any answers or advice would be greatly appreciated ! Cheers .

Cut the small pipe down and weld it closed
How about using something like plywood or thick plastic for a spacer ?

I don't know if the rubber is a IVA pass or not sorry

Just had a thought could you use the pipe as a tank breather and put a one way valve on it
