I am pulling a 2 litre Zetec out of an old Mondeo to replace the 1800 Zetec in the Hornet Mk2, and wondered if anyone had ever lifted one out of a
Mondeo before.
The Haynes manual says the engine and transmission has to be removed together as a unit out of the bottom of the car! This means raising the car
quite a bit, which I dont want to do.
I suspect this may be because the air conditioning pipes go over the engine and they dont usually come off. However, the car is being scrapped so
they have been removed anyway.
Before I get into a lot of struggling either raising the car or fail in an attemp to get it out of the top, does anyone know if it is possible to get
the engine out of the top, and if so can just the engine be removed, or does the engine and gearbox have to come out together?
At the moment most things are stripped out of the engine bay and off the engine.
Take out the gearbox first from the bottom side and then engine from top side.
Easy way and fast.

Many thanks for the replies and advice.
I need to keep it on the wheels to get it out from the corner it is currently sat in, and to get on my trailer to take it to the scrappy.
However, will have a go at removing the gearbox only from under the car, or perhaps just cutting away the structure between the headlamps, and perhaps
the inner wing on the offside, and see what can be done then.
Here's how I did mine.

I have taken silver tops out with out the gearbox. You need to take off the water pump pulley to get enough clearance to get the clutch past the
first motion shaft and the water pump past the chassis leg.
The above methods look more fun. ...
Thanks Big Wasa,
Thats exactly the info I was looking for. I just did not want to put a lot of effort into a difficult job and then have to resort to taking it out
the bottom.
Many thanks
Another vote for the big angle grinder.
I cut the front off the car and even cut through the drive shafts, car slightly raised with a flat trolley board under the engine.
Once the clutch cable gear linkage fuel feed and wires are cut release engine mounts lower car and drag out on the trolley.
On a lighter note of how to remove engine have a look on Youtube. There is shown the correct method. Anchor one end of 30 foot wire rope to JCB, wrap other end around the engine to be removed. Start engine, drive as fast as you can in reverse and engine will pop out, complete with gear box and anything else attached to it.....
out the bottom is easy enough, lower engine and box to ground ideally onto a trolley. Use engine hoist to lift front of car, wheel engine and box out of the way. Have done this many occasions on my todd on various zetec engined fords.
