Hi all, quick one for you: am currently installing a silver top zetec into a standard book hillclimb chassis, which would be preferable do you think, a flat floor (with a 6 inch deep sump mounted over the bottom of the chassis) or a low centre of gravity (with the 6 inch sump mounted an inch below the chassis)?

I'm no expert, but would go with the lower engine option, I reckon it would outweigh any aero advantage of a truly flat floor.

Can you not fit a shallow sump and have both?
Whilst hillclimbers do need useful aero, perfect underbody aero and typical 7 type '2 storey barn door' over car aero seems a bit silly

A chap who was the record holder in a westie in the road going class when I was competing used to reckon that it was more important to get the chassis as low as possible.

So if the sump hangs down then that would prevent the chassis being as low as it could be. i.e. flat floor is better.
