Zetec Codes??
Dick Axtell - 14/1/14 at 09:48 AM

Have seen refs to various engines for sale, with specific code in their description.
E.G. Ford Ecort 1998 1.6 16 Valve Zetec Egine - Code L1E.

Searched here for any thread covering this topic, but nothing found.

What do these codes mean, re Zetecs? More importantly, are there any to avoid?

the code is just Ford's ID for that exact version of the engine - looks like that one is the 90PS version of the 1.6 silvertop in the last of the escorts

I'm guessing they are cheap, but I think you'd be better off with a 1.8 blacktop in the long run - you can get them pretty cheap too
(I just sold 1.8 in a complete running focus with 6 months T&T for £350 )

my engine is an 'NRA' (2.0 pinto for a granada) could also have been a NRC or NRI depending on if the car had a CAT etc....
but the same engine in a sierra could have been a NRB, N4A, N4B or N4I - don't know what the changes are, but with the pinto the it make no difference to us at all (I'm sure its just tiny things like a different manifold or ECU, etc....)
(and there are 20+ more codes for the older carb'd 2.0 pinto's too)
