I'm redoing my throttle cable using parts from a push bike brake cable. I think I'm missing something Because my TB connection is on
the passenger side (damn you America!), the route is an elongated S. When the pedal returns, it is easier for it to pop apart than push the inner
through the outer like so :-
How is the outer meant to be constrained?

Dave
Ah yes a common issue.
It is best fixed by fitting a return spring on the pedal to keep tension on the cable, but I've seen all sorts in the past including lock wiring
the two together and adhesive lined heat shrink.
If it is popping out at the pedal end then a stiffer return spring at the throttle body would help. I had a similar problem and just superglued the outer into the metal piece to stop it popping out.
Is a push bike cable safe enough to use, just a quick question as im a keen cyclist and i am due to set my cars pedals up and if i can get away with a heavy duty bike brake cable i may go that route instead. What are you using on both ends ?
I just bought a regular brake cable. There is a cylinder fixed to one end, and I'm using a solderless nipple at the other. My problem above was
caused by the cable not being attached to the throttle body at the time. Now it is all connected it works fine, but I'm going to add some heat
shrink later just to neaten it up.
Just make sure you have a pedal stop so that when you stamp on the pedal, you hit the stop before the throttle is completely open so that you
don't strain the cable.

Dave
