V6 alfa - type 9
Trev Borg - 1/11/04 at 07:27 AM

My friend has recently purchased a very nice alfa 164 v6 with 190 odd BHP for £150 for his Magenta.

I'm starting to warm to the idea for my car as I still haven't decided which lump to have.

In one on the threads it mention mating the alfa lump to a type 9. Does anyone know the details of who to do this, or is anyone doing something similar.

Any comments welcome ranging from the very useful to the absolute dam right ridiculous

i'm not aware of anyone doing this for what it's worth, but timf posted a handy link a whle back of a company that can make an adapter plate for any engine/gearbox combo. It can be done with metal plate and welded up, for a nicer job and more money you could then have a casting made. That's assuminbg there isn't one commercially available!

Trev,

If you find the link that Ned's on about then please post it here.
Just as info for a possible future project!

Cheers,
James

It there a more suitable box to mate to it.

The chassis i have is all kinda rigged up to fit type 9. Summit skinny and strong ?

There was a guy in a kit car mag I have that had totally rebodied his westfield and at the same time put a V6 Alfa engine in it, Im not sure what gearbox he used, will have a check tonight...if I remember.

Is the gearbox from a 164 or a 75 too big ?

The 75 is a transaxle arrangement and the 164 is front wheel drive.

The only alfa that i know of with the gearbox behind the engine thats rwd, stopped production in the late 70's.

The giulia's had a max bhp of 112, but the cloverleaf 24v V6 has 230 BHP.

But i think it will be worth trying . Its an alloy block and heads, and you can buy them for £150. Not bad really.
