I've got a 1300 x flow which is due to be replaced with a 1600. I'd like to be able to sell the 1300 engine but it seems to be running very poorly. It's totally gutless (even for a 1300), uses a lot of petrol and smokes from the oil filler on the rocker box. Any ideas?
Sell it running but requiring rebuild, sounds tired rings, bores probably valve seats & guides too.
Check the breather isn't blocked maybe?
Thanks I'll try the breather first and then take it to bits. I doubt I'd get much for a 1300 cross flow.

1300 pistons fit 1600 engines and give more compression
Whip out the pistons, keep them for your 1600 and flog the other bits

Good idea. The 1600 I have is a 691 block. Will the 1300 pistons still fit. Is it just a case of getting appropriate rings and popping them in?

Off topic slightly, is there that much difference between a 711 block and a 691 block given that i don't want to increase the capacity nor do i want an engine that revs to 10000! Just a mild tune.
In a 681 the crank journals are narrower and the cam followers are thinner. This wouldn't be an issue for a mild tune
It's actually a 691 block and from what I can gather the bottom end is the same as a 711 but the rest is as per the 681 block.
By the way, what does "u2u" mean? Am I being a numpty?
Click on u2u just under the L of Locostbuilders at the top left hand corner of most pages of the forum , it's an internal email system . I'm a complete numpty when it comes to PCs but even I worked it out
