Shortening a 1600 xflow oil pickup pipe
Kaino - 25/3/14 at 03:35 PM

Hi guys,

Can anyone give me some good advice on how to succesfully take 40mm from the original 1600cc xflow pickup pipe? (The type with the deeper mesh on the strainer, not the flat pancake type)

Have people heated then tried to bend the pipe to sit lower? Can you chop the pipe behind the gorse part then tack weld the strainer back in place?

Any help greatly recieved please.

Thanks
Kaino

on zetecs they tend to cut it then sleeve it and get it brazed or soldered
dont wasnt it dropping off !!

On my Zetec I got a guy to tig weld it after chopping it. Seems to work fine.

Not the same engine, but I had my sump shortened and the guy chopped and rewelded the pickup.

I used soft solder to fix a metal sleeve over the join after shortening - I can't remember if I used brass or steel for the sleeve - it's not going to get hot enough to melt. At least, if it does get hot enough then i'd have other things to worry about!
